Anyone working on major projects in the State of Connecticut, such as barn building, must be registered with the State of Connnecticut. You may obtain an application to work on a major project on line from the Department of Consumer Protection. The application requests information about credit references, proof of insurance, Certificate of good standing in Connecticut, references on your knowledge, your famialiarity with regulations of the Division, possibly a trade name certificate, and current projects you may be working on and any you have completed in the last five years. Registration is $500 and expires on July 1 after the year you get it.  There is also a guaranty fund fee of $480. Workers' Compensation insurance is a requirement of the state, for more information contact: State of Connecticut Workers' Compensation Commission at 1-800-223-9675.  To find out if a builder is registered with Connecticut please call (860) 713-6135 to request a inquiry form, or check on line at the Department of Consumer Protection (use the above link).

When you are building barns in the state of Connecticut, you must contact your County Building Department to obtain a building permit.

Connecticut is divided into geographic regions called counties, but they do not have functioning governments, as defined by the Census Bureau. Below you will find a list of available counties with "functioning" Governments.
